SHAH ALAM, 27 June 2025 – The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) is targeting the installation of 1,000 electric vehicle (EV) chargers at strategic locations and public parking areas across the city, to be implemented in phases.

Petaling Jaya Mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon said the initiative will be carried out in two phases through collaborations with green energy solution providers, in support of the city’s low-carbon urban development agenda.

The first phase will involve the installation of 500 EV chargers, to be implemented by two appointed strategic partners — EV Connection Sdn Bhd and Carput Zap Network Sdn Bhd.

“Both strategic partners are committed to supporting MBPJ’s mission to transform Petaling Jaya into a sustainable and resilient city,” said Zahri.

“MBPJ is deploying modern charging technology that meets safety standards, is user-friendly, and highly efficient — in line with the growing number of EV owners in the Klang Valley,” he added in a statement.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between MBPJ and the two companies was held at MBPJ Headquarters on 26 June 2025.

Zahri added that the initiative aligns with national aspirations to accelerate low-carbon mobility and promote green urban transformation.

“MBPJ is committed to expanding access to this infrastructure throughout Petaling Jaya so that its benefits can be widely enjoyed by all local residents.”

“We hope this effort will further solidify Petaling Jaya’s position as a leader in green mobility, both locally and nationally,” he said.
